Walker council adopts 2026 fee schedule, accepts audit and approves West Side Project bid

Walker — The Walker City Council on Monday unanimously accepted the city’s 2025 financial audit, adopted a new fee schedule for 2026 and approved a series of consent-agenda payments and procurement actions, including acceptance of the bid for the 2026 West Side Project.
Councilmember Gary Wilkening moved to approve consent agenda items 1 through 36, a package that included routine meeting minutes and reports and several financial approvals. The motion was seconded by Erin Haefele and passed on a 5–0 roll call (Granberg, Haefele, Hansen, Wilkening, Worth). The consent approvals authorized invoice payments including $5,000 to Abdo, LLP for final audit payment; $53,662, $9,337 and $17,537.06 to Ulteig Operations, LLC for professional services related to the West Side Project and Tower Avenue Extension; design payments to Short Elliott Hendrickson totaling $2,280 and $3,960 for airport projects; $4,500 in Minnesota Department of Natural Resources application fees for the Lake May Creek crossing; a TIF deposit refund of $8,916.25; and the purchase of a budgeted public works 1-ton GMC work truck for $49,117.20.
Separately, Councilmember Wilkening moved and the council approved accepting the 2025 financial audit as presented. Administrator Hope Fairchild had reported that the city’s independent auditing firm submitted a pre-recorded audit presentation, which is available on the city website.
The council also approved Ordinance 2026-03 adopting the 2026 fee schedule by voice and roll call (5–0), and approved an on-sale intoxicating convention center liquor license for the Walker Area Community Center, pending payment of the license fee. The council voted 5–0 to donate $2,500 to the Walker Area Food Shelf and to not waive municipal tort liability monetary limits under Minn. Stat. 466.04.
In business tied to capital improvements, the council approved Resolution 15-2026, accepting the bid for the 2026 West Side Project, and approved Resolution 16-2026 supporting an application for Sourcewell Community Benefits Funds to improve the city park lighthouse and build a pavilion at the Walker Public Library. Both motions passed 5–0.
The meeting closed with routine announcements of upcoming advisory and committee meeting dates. Mayor Jerecho Worth adjourned the meeting at 6:31 p.m.
Next steps: the audit presentation is posted online and project procurement documents tied to the West Side Project will proceed according to the approved bid and contract process.
