Rothsay council approves fireworks payment, fitness account, bat removal and other routine measures

At its Oct. 6 meeting the Rothsay City Council approved a $2,500 payment for Prairie Days fireworks, authorized a new bank account for Fitness Center transfers, approved a $500 bat-removal quote and delegated authority for the clerk to sign building permits under $10,000, among other routine items.
The Rothsay City Council on Oct. 6 approved a series of routine community and operational items, including a $2,500 payment for Prairie Days fireworks, authorization to open a dedicated bank account for monthly Fitness Center transfers, and a $500 Bat Pros quote for bat removal at the East Park Shelter.
Council motions were consistently made by Nathan Ziegler and seconded by Darrell Tollefson and carried. The EDA approved opening the new account to receive monthly Fitness Center transfers. The council also approved giving the city clerk authority to approve and sign building permits under $10,000.
Staff updates included a report that the new utility program is active and the REC and shop have new phones. Kellie Barry reported 154 active fitness members and announced an upcoming Vendor Show and Turkey Bingo on Nov. 16; she also said there were six rentals in September and five scheduled for October.
Darrell Tollefson said he will call for bids on chip sealing, and the clerk is working with MRWA on water and sewer rate work. The council heard that an emergency mock scenario for policing/public safety is planned for January. Several other routine minutes and financial approvals were carried at the meeting.
The meeting minutes do not show any dissent on these items. The meeting adjourned at 9:06 p.m.
