The Mantorville City Council on July 8 approved several routine and event-related items, including a street closure for Marigold Days and a resident request to start a home daycare.
Councilmember Jeffrey Ingalls moved and Councilmember Lynette Nash seconded approval of the consent agenda, which included the accounts payable warrant list, Dodge County meeting minutes and the 2023 financial report; the motion carried 5–0. Later in the meeting, resident Johannes Marsland asked for council approval to begin a daycare at 515 Walnut Street; council members indicated no objection and asked City Clerk-Treasurer Gretchen Lohrbach to prepare a letter confirming the city’s approval.
Fire Chief Duke Harbaugh requested a closure of 5th Street from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2024, for the Marigold Days street dance. Councilmember Lyle Hoaglund moved and Councilmember Jeffrey Ingalls seconded the closure; the motion carried 5–0.
Council also approved a motion to table further action on air-conditioner replacement quotes while staff gathers more bids (motion by Councilmember Lynette Nash, seconded by Councilmember Jeffrey Ingalls; carried 5–0). The meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m. after a final unanimous motion.
Why it matters: the street closure clears the way for the Marigold Days event and the clerk’s letter gives a resident the administrative confirmation needed to begin the home daycare; tabling facility-repair decisions leaves options open while staff develops more quotes.
What’s next: the clerk will issue the approval letter for the daycare; staff will return with additional air-conditioner quotes at a future meeting and the city will implement the scheduled street closure in September.
