Milroy council authorizes fire and public works purchases, schedules personnel review

At its Jan. 26 meeting the Milroy City Council approved a series of operational purchases and administrative actions for public safety and public works while tabling the water/sewer budget for further review.
Fire Chief Krueger reported departmental needs and the council approved procurement and maintenance steps by unanimous votes. Council accepted a $5,040.00 quote from Heiman Fire for parts for the rescue rig and authorized purchase of a pump from Grainger for $762.00. Council also approved hiring Knott's Welding to replace or repair the tanker-truck ball valve, and authorized adding Fire Chief Krueger to Running's and Menard's vendor accounts to facilitate purchases. Krueger reported that the department responded to 10 calls in 2025, has 22 members, and has formed a five-person committee to pursue FEMA grant-funded gear purchases.
Public Works Director Sando was authorized to attend the Minnesota Rural Water Association conference March 3–5, 2026, in St. Cloud. The council accepted Kibble Equipment's $13,000.00 quote for a John Deere compact tractor and approved Pete's Small Engine's $2,499.00 quote for a trash pump. Council instructed staff to obtain more quotes to replace the city shop attic plumbing (currently a garden hose) to support power-washer use.
On administrative items, the council authorized Clerk/Treasurer Betsy Snyder to attend the Minnesota Clerks and Finance Officers Association conference March 24–27, 2026, in Brooklyn Center. Computers & Beyond completed repairs to the fitness-center access portal. The council voted to begin paying council members monthly effective Jan. 1, 2026, and authorized ordering city cell phones once state and Verizon paperwork is completed. Council also agreed to create a new official Facebook page for the city.
Unfinished business included sending tile-line documents from Jack and John Christensen to the city attorney for review and tabling the item until the February meeting; the Christensens will be invited to attend. A personnel-policy work session was scheduled for Feb. 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The council approved the 2025 PTO payout and adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
