Greene City Council directs counteroffer for two Grove Street properties, sets public hearings

Mayor Galen Lindell presided over the special session, which convened at 5:36 p.m. Councilmember Vicky Malfero moved to approve the agenda; the motion passed with Malfero, Audrey Smith, Brian Uhlenhopp and Rodney Fesenmeyer voting aye and Councilmember Al Zweck recorded absent.
The council then voted to go into closed session under Iowa Code section 21.5(1)(j) to discuss the purchase or sale of particular real estate where premature disclosure could harm the city's negotiating position. After returning to open session, the body voted, on a motion by Brian Uhlenhopp seconded by Audrey Smith, to direct the city attorney to make a counteroffer for 307 and 309 Grove Street. The roll call for that motion was Malfero, Smith, Uhlenhopp and Fesenmeyer aye; Zweck absent.
Council later set a public hearing to consider disposition of 307 and 309 Grove Street for April 27, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. (motion by Vicky Malfero, seconded by Rodney Fesenmeyer; vote: Malfero, Smith, Uhlenhopp, Fesenmeyer aye; Zweck absent).
The council also scheduled the fiscal-year 2026-2027 budget public hearing for April 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. (motion by Malfero, seconded by Smith; same roll call).
These votes were recorded as directions to staff and scheduling of hearings; the council did not adopt final terms for the Grove Street properties during the special session. The council adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
