The Greene County Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously on June 23 to amend its proposed 2027 non-TIF revenue budget and to request an additional $35,000 appropriation from the county council to cover current-year obligations.
Commissioners and staff said rising engineering, appraisal and professional-service costs have pushed the budget beyond prior expectations. Sharon, who circulated the budget materials, told the commission that professional services and appraisal work associated with real-estate transactions were primary drivers of the increase and that some fees may be handled at closing rather than as stand-alone budget items.
During discussion, commissioners agreed to shift several line items: increase the professional-services allocation (the amendment workgroup discussed figures from $25,000 up to $50,000), raise appraisal fees to $15,000, reduce miscellaneous supplies and pare back maintenance from prior estimates. After tallying proposed line-item changes, the commission set an amended budget that increases net non-TIF appropriations by $100,000 for 2027 and moved to approve that amendment.
The commission also agreed to seek an additional appropriation from the county council for the current year to cover outstanding obligations. Commissioners settled on a $35,000 request: $10,000 for appraisal services, $10,000 for property maintenance, and $15,000 toward professional services, plus a $2,000 internal transfer from miscellaneous supplies into professional services. Shane moved the plan to seek the $35,000 appropriation; Karen seconded the motion and the commission approved it by voice vote.
No dissenting votes were recorded. The commission instructed staff to prepare the formal request to the county council and to provide line-item details for the council packet.
The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July, when staff will return both the revised USF real-estate agreement and any additional budget materials requested by commissioners.
