Bristol meeting: police and fire reports, town cleanup notice and community concerns

Bristol — At the April 16 meeting the council received routine public-safety and community service updates and heard a public-comment reminder about town cleanup and planned demolition of the old wastewater plant.
Town Marshall Steve P reported March activity including 109 citations, 62 traffic warnings and 728 calls for service. "In the month of March, we wrote 109 citations...we took 728 calls for services," he said, and gave a breakdown of case types including OWI, theft and one fatality as the department continues its investigation. Code enforcement statistics were also presented (abandoned vehicles, illegal signs and parking complaints).
Fire Chief Nick Hansen summarized March emergency calls (107 calls, 389 responses) and said the department partnered with Bastion Children's Home to make the Bristol Fire Department a Safe Place for youth in Elcar County. Hansen also reported the department expects delivery/inspection of a new engine next week and the upcoming installation of computers on apparatus to connect directly with the Delta County Communication Center.
During public comment, Schwarz (303 East Pula Street) — identifying as a town employee — reminded residents that the townwide cleanup is set for May 1–2 and that electronics, tires, paint and other hazardous items will not be accepted. Schwarz also said demolition of the wastewater plant is planned for next Thursday if utilities can be disconnected and offered to arrange tours prior to demolition.
Council members raised local concerns about commercial vehicles ignoring a detour and making prohibited left turns, and asked whether the park department had repaired a handicap kayak-launch component; staff said parts were ordered.
What happens next: Departments will continue routine reporting and staff will coordinate the cleanup logistics and potential tours related to the wastewater plant demolition.
