Mayor praises staff testimony as Lonsdale pursues state bonding for water tower; engineers update projects

Mayor Tom Berg used the March 26 meeting to highlight collaborative work on infrastructure projects and praised staff for pursuing state bonding to fund the city's water tower.
Berg said City Administrator Joel Erickson and Public Works Director Joe Dornfeld testified at the State Capitol in support of a bond request. Berg commended Erickson's presentation and the team approach to major projects. City Engineer Jason Malecha reported staff are finalizing contract documents for the 2026 Mill and Overlay Project, working on grading as-built reviews, and coordinating lift station design for the Prairie View Development. Malecha also said the Wastewater Treatment Facility Evaluation Report has been completed and that staff are preparing for a Wellhead Protection Plan Part 2 public hearing.
Public Works Director Joe Dornfeld praised staff response during a March 15 snowstorm that dropped about 15 inches of snow, and said spring cleanup and field preparations are underway, with hydrant flushing scheduled for the week of April 20. City Administrator Erickson added that seasonal public works hiring and CPR training for city staff are in progress and that auditors were onsite for fiscal review.
Councilmembers noted EDA work on housing rehabilitation and revolving loan fund policy and said the joint work sessions were valuable in advancing projects. No formal action or formal bonding approvals were taken at the meeting; staff continue outreach to state officials as part of the bonding request process.
