The Volusia County School Board heard a presentation on a new contract with Space Florida that will make the district a participating Space Florida Academy and connect students to aerospace workforce opportunities.
Dr. Pierce described Space Florida as "the official Florida aerospace development authority" and said the district will be able to use Space Florida branding, link student credentials to an industry platform, and provide pathways for graduates to be contacted by employers at the Space Coast. The program will allow students to upload resumes and certifications to a centralized platform to support recruitment into local aerospace jobs.
Board members welcomed the partnership as a workforce-development opportunity for secondary and CTE students; the board pulled the item from the consent agenda to allow staff to summarize the program for the public before approving it as part of the consent agenda.
Staff said the agreement will give students access to Space Florida resources, branding and connections to industry partners on the Space Coast; specific program implementation timelines and job-placement metrics were not detailed during the consent session.
