Committee approves shower and locker room renovations at Fire Station 2

The committee unanimously approved funding to renovate the shower and locker rooms at Fire Station 2, authorizing transfers and repurposing of previously allocated capital funds.
"We're looking to repurpose the $150,000 from item 120‑25 and transfer $177,000 from item 411‑24 so that we have the sum total needed to do the renovation project," Commissioner Belcarse said, describing a May site tour with staff and the fire chief and outlining the project's priorities.
Commissioner Belcarse told the committee the chief identified the locker/shower area as the first priority. Staff said they expect to begin work over the summer, coordinate scheduling with the department so firefighters can access alternate shower facilities while work proceeds, and anticipate a construction schedule of roughly three to four weeks depending on what is found when walls are opened. The backup budget carries contingency funds, and the presenter said $30,000 in contingency is being held for likely minor items such as waterproofing, abatement or HVAC ventilation work.
Councelor Malaki moved approval; the committee voted unanimously. Staff said they will coordinate timing with the fire chief and the contractor to minimize operational disruption and will return with any material changes to scope or schedule.
