Lexington City Council approves Memorial Park use and a special-event permit, and adopts routine consent items

LEXINGTON — The Lexington City Council unanimously approved event permits and routine business at its Feb. 5, 2026 regular meeting.
On a motion by Councilmember DeVries, seconded by Councilmember Hunt, the council approved the meeting agenda and later adopted the consent agenda, which included approval of the Jan. 15, 2026 council minutes, payment of checks numbered 53741–53797 and 16029–16039, and the financial reports (cash balances and budget-to-actual fund summaries). Both motions carried 3-0 with Mayor Murphy and Councilmembers DeVries and Hunt voting; Councilmember Mahr was excused.
The council moved on to two event requests. Mayor Murphy moved and Councilmember DeVries seconded approval for Karner Blue Education Center to use Memorial Park for a Track & Field Day on May 22, 2026, with a rain date of May 29, 2026; the motion carried 3-0. Councilmember DeVries then moved and Councilmember Hunt seconded approval of a special-event permit for City Heat Charities to hold an event June 7, 2026, at Cowboy’s Saloon from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; that motion also carried 3-0.
City Administrator Bill Petracek reminded the mayor and council of an upcoming Police Governing Board meeting on Monday; no other substantive reports or public comments were offered during the Citizens Forum or the Mayor and Council Input item. The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 p.m. on a motion by Mayor Murphy, seconded by Councilmember DeVries, which passed 3-0.
