At its Feb. 18, 2025 meeting, the Multigenerational Education District (MGDE) Advisory Committee asked Marine Village School (MVS) and MMFS to prepare a 'blue sky' outline of potential space needs — including storage and classroom space — looking 2, 5 and 10 years ahead.
Sarah Stivland, MVS board chair, reported leadership and program updates: Dr. Kokx has resigned and relocated to Florida to care for an aging parent; Cari McGlynn has been hired as MVS principal; the school is searching for a new executive director. Stivland said MVS will add sixth grade next fall, its charter is approved for grades 7 and 8, and a decision on further grade expansion is required by January 2026. She emphasized that available space will be a key constraint for any expansion.
Robin Brooksbank, MMFS board chair, said Julie McGarvie will begin as Interim ED in March. Brooksbank described an ongoing collaboration between MVS and MMFS staff and administrations and said continued communication will be needed to address shared space and storage challenges. MMFS is focusing on advancing its mission and growing funding resources to support folk arts and local artists.
Action items recorded in the minutes require MVS and MMFS to present the 'blue sky' space needs outline at the next MGDE Advisory Committee meeting on March 18, 2025. Attachments listed in the minutes include the School Forest presentation, the Land Management MVS/City draft agreement, and organizational updates from MVS and MMFS.
