Whitpain board preview: June 16 meeting to include public hearing on 34‑unit townhomes, $1M+ Mermaid Park grant briefing

Township staff previewed the Whitpain Board of Supervisors’ June 16 agenda on June 2, saying the session will include a Mission Moment recognizing a joint emergency response, and a public hearing on a Conditional Use application for a proposed 34‑unit townhome development at 1730 Skippack Pike.
Manager Eric Traub said the property has been rezoned to R‑3B and that the conditional use review will focus on whether the proposal meets applicable zoning criteria before it proceeds through the land development process. Traub also told the board staff is arranging a briefing on a recently awarded grant of more than $1 million for walkability improvements around Mermaid Park; staff may present that briefing in June or defer it to July.
Traub reported the Fire Company is awaiting delivery of a new fire truck that is under construction and said the Township has solicited financing proposals from several lending institutions and expects to bring a bank loan award recommendation to the board. Chair Scott M. Badami also announced community events: the Whitpain Golf Classic on June 22 at Blue Bell Country Club, hosted by honorary chair Merrill Reese, and the Wissahickon Park grand opening ribbon‑cutting on June 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Chair Badami reminded attendees that closed‑captioning on Zoom is autogenerated and ‘‘is not 100% accurate and not the official minutes of the Board of Supervisors' meetings,’’ and he told residents that public comment is welcomed at meetings ‘‘though comments must be made in person.’’ Vice Chair Kimberly J. Klauder offered congratulations to recent graduates, and Supervisor Joyce M. Keller spoke about the Township’s tradition of raising the Pride flag in June.
The board adjourned at 6:07 p.m.; the public hearing on 1730 Skippack Pike will be held at the June 16 meeting as noticed.
