Long Prairie police report 409 calls since Dec. 22; ICE presence confirmed; fire department seeks ISO points and training

At the Jan. 14 meeting Mayor James Kreemer relayed a police report that Long Prairie Police Department (LPPD) logged 409 calls between Dec. 22, 2025 and Jan. 14, 2026, averaging about 17 calls per day. The breakdown provided included 164 traffic-related calls, 177 assists, 15 medical calls, 10 juvenile calls and other categories reported by department staff.
The report said the LPPD had received numerous reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had been present in Long Prairie and that the agency’s presence was confirmed on the morning of the report; local law enforcement plans to meet with enforcement agents to discuss community concerns.
Fire Chief Dan Laumeyer told the council the department will perform scheduled apparatus maintenance, expects a $12,900 check from Minnesota Cities for prorated damage from last February’s equipment incident, and is awaiting completion and repainting of a DNR fire truck before returning it to the DNR Forestry Department in Little Falls. Laumeyer said the department is working to regain items that contribute to an Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating of 4; losing points could increase residents’ fire-insurance rates. He and the mayor noted that adopting a rental-inspection ordinance could add points without large department expenditures.
Laumeyer also announced the Annual Township Fire Contract Meeting on April 1 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers and a First Aid/CPR/AED training session on April 7. The council received the reports for information and no formal action on operations or hiring was taken at the meeting.
