New Germany council approves agenda and consent items, hears staff reports and ordinance updates

At its Nov. 19 meeting the City of New Germany council unanimously approved the agenda and consent items, heard fire, water and public works reports and reviewed a Carver County permit offer and updates on a cannabis ordinance and Trophy Lakes restrictions.
The City of New Germany City Council convened at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19, 2024. Mayor Shirley Jaeger called the meeting to order and the council unanimously approved the agenda and later the consent agenda.
The council received operational updates from staff. Assistant Fire Chief Chris Barlau said some new radios have arrived and that the department has a house burn scheduled for Nov. 30. Water and public works staff reported that hauling in old water meters generated $811.02 for the water fund, that a DeWalt grease gun was purchased, inventory is being updated, generators are scheduled for service on Friday, and a Nov. 26 meeting is set to plan CDL classes for city employees. Staff also noted they could not find the snowplow remote and may need to order a replacement.
On a miscellaneous business item, City Clerk Twyla Menth read an email from Carver County offering permits related to the Carver County Rail Authority area. The email said the county would draw up a contract if the city is interested in taking over permit responsibilities.
Under old business councilmembers reviewed a memo from consultant SEH on a cannabis ordinance and directed that work continue. Council also noted an upcoming Truth and Taxation hearing scheduled for Dec. 3 with Ehlers present. During discussion of Trophy Lakes, council reiterated that the city ordinance prohibits wells and septic systems in that development and said it will abide by the ordinance.
Two routine motions were recorded: approval of the Nov. 6 council minutes, Nov. 13 election canvass minutes, claims for payment and financial reports as part of the consent agenda (motion by Thomas Mielke, second by Kevin Grove, carried 5-0), and a motion to adjourn at 7:34 p.m. (motion by Kevin Grove, second by Paul Roepke, carried 5-0).
The meeting record includes no individual public comments; the public comment period was opened and comments were limited to five minutes. The council returned no additional reports and adjourned at 7:34 p.m.
