Mayor Sokol called the Jan. 27 meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and the council unanimously approved the consent agenda, a package that included minutes from the Jan. 13 council meeting and financial reports. The consent agenda listed invoices paid from Jan. 14–27 totaling $33,044.41, payroll checks totaling $35,454.12 and utility deposit refunds of $150.00. Two property liens (400 E. Marshall — $93.89; 3140 K Ave — $301.47) and three liquor-license items (Mike's Pizza special Class C; Dollar General #15311 ownership update and renewal for a Class B; and an ownership update to Hy‑Vee Dollar Fresh Class E) were included and approved.
After adjourning the regular session at 5:25 p.m., the council convened a budget work session. Councilmembers reviewed wages and several department budgets; the clerk will enter the discussed changes into the draft budget for review at the next work session scheduled for Feb. 10, 2025 (to occur after the regular council meeting). The budget work session adjourned at 7:06 p.m.
