EDA approves minutes and $1,000 chamber payment; chamber reports staffing changes

At its Sept. 1 meeting the Harmony Economic Development Authority approved previous meeting minutes, reviewed financials showing a payoff on the Tin Rust & Harmony loan and current loan standing, and authorized payment of a remaining $1,000 stipend to the Harmony Area Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting opened with Kerry Kingsley calling the meeting to order. The board voted to approve minutes from July 28 and Aug. 11 after a motion by Steve Sagen and a second by Greg Schieber; the motion carried unanimously. Chris Giesen, EDA staff member, reported that the settlement of the Tin Rust & Harmony loan had been accepted and a payoff received and that all loans were current.
Giesen said the Chamber had requested $27,000 of its $28,000 stipend to date and had asked for the remaining $1,000 for 2022; the board approved the payment on a motion by Steve Donney, second by Steve Sagen. No board member opposed either motion.
Amy Bishop presented the chamber report and said director Melissa Vander Plas had resigned and interviews were underway for a replacement. Bishop said the chamber had wrapped up the Alley Jam concert series, planned Taste of the Trail, was addressing signage and beautification projects and that the holiday event will not be held in its traditional format this year. Erica Thilges was appointed to fill the remainder of Andy Batstone's chamber board seat, and Becky Jones is assisting the chamber with social media work.
Kingsley asked for updates on local prospects. Devin Swanberg said there were no new updates on the Dollar General project and indicated some unresolved private-landowner questions may remain. Chris Giesen reported that Twin City Trimmers's owner still intends to enclose a building in the industrial park by year-end but interior work may continue over winter owing to supply-chain delays.
The meeting adjourned at 9:53 AM. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2022, at 7:30 AM at the Community Center.
