Public Works director briefs council on FEMA drain repair, training and tree removal plans

Public Works Director Jim Wright updated the Ivanhoe City Council on operational and capital maintenance items at the Feb. 10 meeting.
Wright said he will follow up with the engineer regarding the Drain Structure Repair tied to FEMA 2019 work. He reported that snow removal over the recent weekend went well and noted the city had previously approved the purchase of one snow hauler truck up to $9,000; staff are currently evaluating hauler options. Wright also said staff are adopting new tools and training: Logan is learning the Esri GIS system, Wright signed up for a University of Minnesota virtual training on pavement-life, and Logan is scheduled for Class D Wastewater Certification training March 3–6 in St. Cloud.
Wright recommended the city proceed with removing diseased trees and replacing them through the SWSW program; he said grants may be available to help cover removal costs. He reported meters are read weekly to monitor for leaks and that public works hours will remain 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with overtime allowed only in rare situations.
Next steps: Wright will follow up with the engineer on the FEMA-related drain repair and the council may consider funding or grant options for tree removal at a future meeting.
