The Jackson City Council on May 5, 2026 unanimously approved several routine items, including a purchase agreement to buy a flood‑damaged house and lot at 309 River Street, an unbudgeted gearbox rebuild for the City's SnoGo snow blower, and an amendment to the personnel handbook clarifying premium pay eligibility for employees working "out of class." The council also met in closed session under Minnesota Statute 13D.05 to discuss a property sale and pending litigation and took no public action following that session.
Purchase of 309 River Street: City Clerk Dave Maschoff updated the Council that the City will move forward with a purchase agreement to acquire the flood‑damaged property at 309 River Street; Maschoff removed a previously proposed $5,000 cash advance to the seller from the Council action and said the seller will have until the end of June to remove personal property. The motion to approve the purchase agreement (Consent Agenda Item 7(M)) was moved by Alderman Nathan Peterson, seconded by Alderman Mark Titus, and carried unanimously.
SnoGo gearbox repair: Public Works Director Tony Oxborough said the SnoGo required a gearbox rebuild following a winter breakdown, estimating roughly $3,000 in labor plus parts; by contrast a new unit would cost about $30,000. The Council approved the McQueen rebuild quote and directed payment from the City's 222 equipment fund. That motion was moved by Alderman Shawn Foster, seconded by Alderman Nathan Peterson, and carried unanimously.
Personnel handbook amendment: Interim City Administrator Bret Heitkamp explained a Personnel Committee proposal clarifying an "inner and acting" component of premium pay policy so that employees filling a higher classification become eligible on the 31st day of assuming those duties. The Council approved the amendment by unanimous vote on a motion moved by Alderman Nathan Peterson and seconded by Alderman Mark Titus.
Closed session and adjournment: The Council moved into closed session at 6:47 p.m. under attorney‑client privilege (Minn. Stat. 13D.05) to discuss sale of property and pending litigation and reconvened at 7:11 p.m. There was no Council action following the closed session. The meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
Vote tallies: motions noted in the minutes were carried "unanimously"; roll call attendance at the start of the meeting listed Mayor Marcus Polz and Aldermen Mark Titus, Mike Schwartz, Shawn Foster, Nathan Peterson, Joe Pell and John Weland.
