Fire chief says department has assisted Ambulance Department on every request, calls rumor "false"

Jackson Fire Chief Dave Bond used the Open Forum at the May 5, 2026 Jackson City Council meeting to dispute comments from a previous meeting that suggested the Fire Department had not been assisting the Ambulance Department.
Bond said the allegation "was false," told the Council the Fire Department has its own records to support that position and said he had spoken with Ambulance personnel Darci Fiala and Kirk Dunlavey to confirm the response history. "We’ve shown up every time the Ambulance Department has asked for assistance," Bond said, adding that firefighters have at times responded even when assistance was not requested.
Bond said some Fire Department members asked him to make the information public and that he wanted to avoid any "bad 'vibes'" between departments. "We’ve got a good thing going," he said, and thanked Mayor Marcus Polz and councilmembers for the opportunity to clarify the record.
The remarks were made during Open Forum and no Council action was taken on the topic at the meeting.
