Walker proclaims Sept. 12 as 18th Annual Five Seasons Stand Down Day for veterans

The proclamation recognizes VALOR, Inc., in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Metro Area Veterans Council, the Iowa City VA Medical Center and the Linn County Continuum of Care for organizing the event, which provides veterans and family members access to benefits counseling, employment and training assistance, health screenings, housing services, legal assistance and substance abuse counseling. The proclamation notes Stand Down events have been used nationally to reach and assist homeless veterans since the first such event in 1988.
The mayor pro tem encouraged residents to recognize the event’s positive impact and to express gratitude to those who have served.
