Walcott clerk outlines January vacancy process; councilor raises snow-plowing concerns

Walcott — City Clerk Lisa Rickertsen told the City Council on Dec. 1 that a council seat will become vacant in January and explained the options under the Iowa Code for filling the vacancy. The council will decide at its Jan. 5, 2026 meeting whether to fill the seat by appointment or by special election.
During council comments, Councilor Kirk Koberg said he was concerned that recent snow removal had left snow pushed onto sidewalks adjacent to the curb. Public Works staff member Paul Stagg responded that staff work to get as close to the curb as possible to clear the entire street, following previous council direction. The minutes do not record a subsequent policy change or additional staff directive; the concern was noted and the mayor moved through the remaining agenda.
The meeting minutes show Harry Knutsen arrived late; the meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
