The Tri-Center Board of Education on Jan. 13 approved first readings of multiple policy updates and, in several cases, waived a required second reading.
On a motion by Katie Ausdemore, seconded by Mike Olsen, the board approved first reading and waived the second reading for a group of policies including 102 Equal Education Opportunity; 401.2 Equal Employment Opportunity; 401.13 Limitation to Employment References; 502-3 Use of Motor Vehicles; newly introduced 503.9 Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices and its regulation 503.9R1; and 603.1 Basic Instruction Program. That omnibus motion carried 5-0.
Separately, Amanda Scherer moved and Jeremy VanArsdol seconded the first reading of policy 501.9 Chronic Absenteeism and Truancy and its regulation 501.9R1; that motion also carried 5-0. The minutes do not record extended debate on these items.
The policy package also included noninstructional and nutrition-related items (700 series and 710.1R1 / 710.1E1 / 710.E2) listed in the minutes as part of the board’s review. Board members voted unanimously on the recorded motions.
