The Tri-Center Comm School District Board of Education approved a series of personnel and operational items at its July 16, 2024 regular meeting, including hiring an athletic trainer and awarding a facilities bid, and denied an open-enrollment application citing insufficient classroom space.
President Mike Olsen called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. Board Members Katie Ausdemore and Amanda Scherer (both recorded as participating via Zoom) joined Olsen in voting on routine business and new items. Superintendent Angela Huseman summarized administrative items including the FY25 calendar, a Pottawattamie County safety update, curriculum and professional development plans, a bleacher project update, and an SBI position.
On motions recorded in the minutes: Board Member Amanda Scherer moved and Katie Ausdemore seconded approval of a contract with Sarah Branning to serve as the district’s athletic trainer for 2024–2025; the motion was recorded as carried 3-0. The board approved a bid from Bonsall TV Inc. for a football speaker system in the amount of $23,340.64 on a motion by Ausdemore, seconded by Scherer; the minutes record the vote as 3-0. The board denied an open-enrollment application for "Student A" with the reason given as insufficient classroom space; that motion was recorded as carried 3-0.
The board also approved an operational sharing agreement with Underwood for an Operations Director for 2024–2025, approved the high school, middle school and elementary student handbooks for 2024–2025, and accepted the resignation of Laura Cunningham as co-director of the Tiny Trojans program effective July 17 — each action recorded on motions by Ausdemore or Scherer and each carried 3-0 in the minutes. Per Superintendent Huseman’s recommendation, the board approved keeping textbook rental fees unchanged for 2024–2025 (Elementary $40; Middle School $45; High School $50).
The meeting was adjourned at 12:53 p.m.; the transcript records a motion to adjourn that it also records as "carried 5-0" and notes President Olsen declared the meeting adjourned. (The minutes show an internal inconsistency: most action votes are recorded as 3-0 while the adjournment line records 5-0; the membership listed at the meeting start names three voting board members.)
The board scheduled its next meeting for August 5, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the High School Media Center.
