Alvin ISD board confirms multiple campus and central‑office hires, including chief of staff and deputy superintendent

The Alvin Independent School District Board of Trustees on June 23 approved a slate of personnel actions that added campus leadership and new central‑office roles.
The board approved the appointment of Dr. Dwayne Edwards as assistant principal at Iowa Colony Junior High after the committee’s recommendation. Dr. Edwards, introduced by district staff, told trustees he has 23 years of experience in education, said he is from Jamaica and said he is ‘‘looking forward to working with families, parents and students as we work towards the single goal of excellent student academic outcomes.’’
The board was advised that Rebecca Jasinski will transfer to Nolan Ryan Junior High as an assistant principal; that transfer did not require board approval. The board separately approved the appointment of Skyler Sykes as an assistant principal at Nolan Ryan Junior High; the motion passed 7–0. Sykes said he has worked with Principal Dana Green, described his background overseeing instructional coaching and campus leadership and thanked trustees for the opportunity.
Mr. Matt Day was approved as assistant principal at Rodeo Palms Junior High. The committee noted Day’s more than 15 years of experience in education and his background in special education leadership; Day addressed the board and thanked trustees and his family.
On central‑office leadership, Superintendent Ronda Mason presented a proposed organizational chart and recommended creating a chief of staff position to strengthen strategic alignment and board support. The committee recommended Kimberly Simpson to fill the role; the board voted 7–0 to approve the appointment. Simpson summarized her work in Lancaster ISD and Sherman ISD, highlighting experience with a $376 million bond program and community engagement, and told trustees she was ‘‘truly excited to begin this work and I look forward to serving in Alvin ISD.’’
The board also approved Dr. Kwabena Mensa to serve as Deputy Superintendent of Academics. Mason said the role will provide focused leadership for curriculum, instruction, accountability and school improvement. Dr. Mensa, introduced from prior district roles, thanked the board and said he is ‘‘committed to ensuring that our community gets the product that they deserve’’ and will partner with leadership to improve student outcomes.
All personnel motions passed unanimously, 7–0. Committee recommendations and candidate backgrounds were presented for each position.
