Alvin ISD board approves consent items, final budget amendment and new property insurance

The Alvin Independent School District Board of Trustees on June 23 unanimously approved routine consent items, a final amendment to the fiscal‑year 2026 budget and a property insurance contract recommended by the district’s risk management office.
Board President opened the meeting and, after the consent agenda (items A–C) was presented for approval, Trustee Scott moved to adopt the consent items and Trustee Sweeney seconded. The board approved the package, which included approval of board minutes and requests to consider expenditures exceeding $100,000 per line item under CH(Local).
A district staff presenter told trustees the final budget amendment ‘‘has been structured to ensure alignment between functional revenues and expenditures in full compliance with requirements of the Texas Education Agency’’ and that the amendment ‘‘enables the board to address priorities and pending matters impacted by the close of the fiscal year.’’ Trustee Harris seconded the motion to adopt the amendment; the board voted 7–0 to approve the budget and transfers as presented.
Trustees also heard from the district’s risk management office about a recent request for proposals for the district’s property insurance. The presentation said the recommended coverage includes named windstorm coverage, all‑other‑perils coverage, equipment breakdown coverage and active‑shooter coverage. The district recommended accepting Arthur J. Gallagher’s proposal; the board voted 7–0 to approve the contract.
All motions recorded at the meeting carried by unanimous 7–0 votes. No public commenters signed up during the open forum.
What happens next: The budget amendment and insurance award will be reflected in the district’s fiscal records and insurance renewals; administrative staff will carry out the transfers and finalize contract documents on behalf of the district.
