Chair Malcolm Boyd and staff outlined a proposal to pursue a down‑island shared‑services model with Edgartown and Oak Bluffs and to continue outreach to West Tisbury to explore broader island participation.
Staff summarized operational concerns that would affect any shared arrangement, including jurisdictional confusion caused by post‑office‑box addresses used on case reports, the administrative burden of alpha‑gal case reporting, and the potential cost implications of different staffing and contracting models. Staff said discussions will continue among the down‑island health agents and that outreach to West Tisbury will be attempted to reassess interest in an island‑wide model.
Board members supported further conversations but emphasized the need for a fiscally sound structure that reduces duplicative work and clarifies which town is responsible for follow up. No formal vote was taken. Staff was directed to continue discussions with neighboring towns and report back at a future meeting.
