Commission hears updates on temporary mailboxes, roundabout design and alternate commissioner

The chair said the county had finished 100% design for the mailbox location and was preparing to go to bid; Ben has been awarded the contract to provide a temporary mailbox container. Commissioners discussed siting, cost responsibility and aesthetic options for the container; one idea mentioned was painting the container with a commemorative image linked to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Members raised safety concerns about trees in roundabout plantings, saying tall trees can block views when entering the circle. Commissioners discussed lower‑water landscaping or boulders as alternatives, and one member urged avoiding plantings that would require watering. No final decisions were recorded; further design and bidding remain with the county and project engineers.
In miscellaneous business the chair announced Gayen Riggs as the commission’s alternate planning commissioner; Riggs lives in Summit Creek and works in a branch presidency role at the MTC. The chair said the mayor was expected to present Riggs to the City Council for confirmation at the next council meeting.
The meeting adjourned after a motion and voice vote.
