Planning commission recommends city adopt updated Woodland Hills general plan

The Woodland Hills Planning Commission voted June 17 to recommend that the City Council adopt the city’s updated general plan.

The commission’s chair told members the plan had been completed, reviewed by both the planning commission and city council, and posted online for several weeks for public review. No members of the public attended the hearing in person or online, and the planning commission closed the public‑comment period before proceeding to deliberations.

Commissioners said the council made only minor changes to wording and a few goals. Members praised added mapping, an executive summary, an index and the inclusion of the survey and a list of participants. “I think it’s pretty pretty good,” the chair said, reflecting the commission’s general view that the changes did not alter the plan’s substance.

A motion to recommend adoption of the general plan, as revised by the planning commission and the city council and including the new executive summary, was made and seconded. The chair called for a voice vote; the motion was approved and the plan will be forwarded to the City Council for final action.

The commission discussed the related strategic plan presented to the mayor and the development committee’s future role; the chair said the committee’s primary assignment — assembling the plan — is largely complete and the committee will likely be released from that work when the council takes final action.

Next steps: the recommendation will be placed on the City Council’s agenda for final consideration and possible adoption.
