Council approves consent agenda, cancels Nov. 5 meeting and reschedules Oct. 29

The Independence City Council on Sept. 17 approved the consent agenda, adopted routine minutes and accounts payable batches and adjusted the regular meeting schedule because of a general election conflict.
Councilor Grotting moved to approve the consent agenda (minutes from the Aug. 28 workshop and Sept. 3 regular meeting, and accounts payable batches with checks numbered 23087-23115, noting checks 23082-23086 were voided for a printing error). Councilor McCoy seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
On scheduling, City Administrator Mark Kaltsas noted Planning Commission items and an extra Tuesday meeting in October. Councilor Spencer moved to cancel the Nov. 5 meeting and reschedule for Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.; Councilor McCoy seconded. The motion passed 5-0. Kaltsas also said staff will set the canvassing meeting for either the morning of Nov. 7 or Nov. 8 and bring details at the next meeting.
In reports, Chief Gary Kroells presented the West Hennepin Public Safety monthly report for August, noting a year-to-date total of 3,057 calls with 237 in Independence and 109 in Maple Plain. Kroells said a recent re-striping of the roundabout appears to have reduced accidents: "since they re-striped the roundabout there hasn’t been any accidents or people going over the roundabout," he said.
The meeting adjourned at 7:11 p.m. following a motion by Councilor Spencer and second by Councilor Betts that passed 5-0.
