Council declines to expand Main Street closing hours after residents, members raise noise concerns

Three Main Street business owners asked the council at a Nov. 17 work session to extend late‑night operating hours from the current 2:00 a.m. closing to 4:00 a.m., but council members expressed concern about noise and safety and did not approve a change.

A speaker representing the businesses said three venues, including one identified as Platinum Lounge and an owner named Miss Maxine, want to push last call to 4 a.m. The council discussed the request during the work session; members noted earlier extensions already granted and cited complaints from neighbors who live behind Main Street businesses. One council member recalled residents reporting that loud music had woken children.

Council members referenced local incident reporting and cautioned against turning the city into an "after‑hours" destination. A councilwoman said she was "torn between the businesses and the community" but would "remain where we are," signaling she would not support increasing the closing time. The council finished the discussion without adopting a change to the closing hour.
