Cushing selectmen award sand and salt contracts and seek estimates for road and sand-shed repairs

At their June 9 meeting the Town of Cushing Board of Selectmen approved contracts for winter maintenance materials and instructed the chairman to obtain further estimates for two local repairs.
Chairman Alton Grover read competitive bids for sand and salt. The board accepted Heartland's sand bid at $10.00 per cubic yard (Jake Barbour, Inc. bid $10.50/cy). The board noted that bulldozer rental adds roughly $1.00 per yard for sand placement, about $800 per year. The motion to accept Heartland's bid was moved by Selectman Daniel Staples, seconded by Selectman Laurie Haynes, and carried 5-0-0.
For road salt the board accepted Morton Salt Inc.'s bid at $55.89 per ton over higher bids from other vendors; the motion was moved by Selectman Daniel Staples, seconded by Selectman Laurie Haynes, and carried 5-0-0.
Chairman Grover also reported that a hill just beyond Flintwood Lane on Hathorne Point Road is failing (section roughly 20x20). One contractor estimated repairs could cost about $4,200 depending on site conditions; the board directed Grover to contact two or three additional companies for firm quotes and to report back at the next meeting. Grover similarly reported an estimate of $3,500 to repair the entrance to the town's sand shed and was directed to obtain additional quotes for that work as well.
