Commission backs comp-plan amendment and rezoning to bring DSCO Coffee to 1706 22nd Ave.

The Kenosha City Plan Commission voted Feb. 5 to recommend amendments to the comprehensive plan and a rezoning that would allow DSCO Coffee to open at 1706 22nd Avenue.
Applicants Daniel (Dan) Currier and Stephanie and co-applicants told commissioners they purchased the property under land contract and intend to use the existing building for a coffee shop. Staff said the surrounding area has a mix of industrial and commercial zoning and supported the plan- and zoning-map changes. Several commissioners and alderpersons who said they had inspected the site and know the neighborhood expressed support.
Staff noted that any future expansion would require additional review and that, as with any change of occupancy, applicants would need proper permits and inspections before opening. The commission approved the items by voice vote and will forward the recommendation to the common council for final action.
