Miltona Township lays out costs for Miltona Bay Road paving; some assessments paid at hearing

Clerk Tom Blank presented the completed cost breakdown for the Miltona Bay Road NE paving at an assessment hearing on Dec. 2, reporting that Miltona Township’s portion covered 21 parcels for a total of 53 assessments and Carlos Township’s portion encompassed six parcels. The board identified the cost of a full assessment as $2,081.85 and described the assessments as five-year installments with an interest rate of 6.55 percent.
Blank explained how the assessments will appear on property tax statements beginning in May 2025 and noted property owners may pay off assessments at any time by contacting the clerk. At the hearing, several property owners paid their assessments in full; the clerk said payments received that night will prevent those assessments from appearing on future tax statements for those parcels.
Engineer Jeff Stabnow, PE, answered technical questions from attendees regarding edging and surface runoff tied to the paving, describing the project's drainage details and how edging was designed to manage runoff. Attendees in the hearing generally expressed appreciation for the improved surface.
The hearing concluded on a motion to adjourn moved by Gary "Andy" Anderson and seconded by Matt Kugler; the motion carried 2-0. The township will reflect the assessment entries on next year’s tax statements for parcels where payoffs were not completed that night.
