Resident flags tile-line drainage issue; public works to seek quotes to alter intake and culvert

Milroy — John Christensen asked the council May 26 to address a tile line next to his property that he said is affecting water flow and suggested the city replace it or remove an intake on his side.
Public Works Director Tom Sando told the council that the city contracted Empire Pipe to clean sand from traps and trace the tile. According to the report to council, Empire Pipe traced 42 feet to a sweeping 90-degree bend and jetted roughly 660 feet from the sand trap up to the intake. Sando said the intake located on Christensen’s side could be removed.
Christensen thanked the city for the extra work in tracing the line and said he appreciated the effort toward a solution. Sando said that, at this time, the city will not perform tiling but will obtain quotes to remove the intake and replace the culvert to the junction box.
The council did not take immediate action beyond directing Public Works to gather quotes and report back. Council members also authorized Sando to attend a line-tracing class in Kandiyohi on May 28, 2026, as part of staff training.
Next steps are administrative: Public Works will solicit quotes and return to the council with cost estimates and recommended repairs.
