The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on June 9 approved a series of routine but consequential measures, voting unanimously to transfer $1,450,000 from the Rural Services Fund to the Secondary Roads Fund, raise the county Recycling CenterMSW and C&D rate to $100 per ton effective July 1, 2026, and authorize a contract with Western Engineering for FY27 asphalt work on Juniper, Hackberry, 400th and 240th streets.
The actions were approved in a series of motions recorded during the boardsession. Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen moved the transfer and Supervisor Keith Jones seconded; the resolution (No. 39-2026) cites Section 331.432 of the Code of Iowa as authority for interfund transfers. The roll call recorded AYES from Chairman Brian Shea, Supervisor Tim Wichman, Supervisor Susan Miller, Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen and Supervisor Keith Jones. The resolution directs the auditor to make the transfer and notify the treasurer.
The board also approved smaller operational items. Supervisor Jorgensen moved and Supervisor Jones seconded purchase of a $5,200 fuel barrel for the Recycling Center, charged to the Recycling budget. The board then approved a rate increase for municipal solid waste (MSW) and construction & demolition (C&D) handling at the Recycling Center to $100 per ton, to take effect July 1, 2026; that motion was carried unanimously.
For road work, the board voted to authorize the chair to sign an agreement with Western Engineering for FY27 asphalt repairs and resurfacing on specified county roads. The agenda listed Juniper, Hackberry, 400th and 240th streets as the work locations; the motion to approve was made by Supervisor Jorgensen and seconded by Supervisor Jones and passed without opposition.
Other business approved or scheduled: the board approved the canvass of the 2026 primary elections and authorized the county auditor to pay election costs; authorized the Community Services Director to sign an Iowa HHS Disability Access Point Contract Amendment (ADSC125016); and approved an application for supplemental group insurance coverage with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Supervisor Susan Miller moved and Supervisor Keith Jones seconded approval of a fireworks permit filed by Chad Lyons for displays on July 3 and July 4, 2026, at 18151 400th St., Oakland; that permit was approved.
The board received routine reports including the Recorder Fee Book for May 2026 and approved salary actions to employ Tanya Brannan and Ralph Robalik as part-time youth corrections workers for SWI Juvenile Detention. Two items were tabled for further consideration at the June 23 meeting: a Rural Transit System Joint Participation Agreement with SWIPCO and department head agreements. The meeting included a closed session under Iowa Code 20.17(3) for discussion of labor negotiations and collective bargaining; the board entered and exited the closed session by unanimous roll-call votes. The meeting adjourned at 11:19 a.m.
