The Rothsay Fire Department reported it was denied a DNR 50/50 grant at the Sept. 4 council meeting. Council members approved applying for a West Central EMS 50/50 grant that would require up to a $500 local match.
The fire report also noted seven calls in August: four medical calls, two vehicle accidents and one cancelled call; the transcript states additional billing is still being processed by the fire chief. Council recorded approval for the West Central EMS grant application (motion by Nathan Ziegler, seconded by Dana Holland Jr.).
Council members discussed equipment needs and agreed to bring an auto extrication tool loan to the September budget meeting for further consideration and budgeting. The council did not record roll-call tallies for these actions in the transcript.
The council’s action allows the fire department to pursue additional local funding to replace or supplement the denied DNR 50/50 grant and directs staff to return with budget implications at the Sept. 18 preliminary budget meeting.
