Rothsay council approves routine minutes, equipment purchases and personnel actions; schedules preliminary budget meeting

The Rothsay City Council met Sept. 4 and approved routine administrative business, several staff requests and a schedule for upcoming budget planning.
Council Member Nathan Ziegler moved and Darrell Tollefson seconded approval of removing a boulevard tree near Heather Weber’s house, with Weber offering a donation toward removal costs; the motion carried. The council also approved the agenda after two additions (motion by Shane Balken), and approved the August regular meeting minutes and two August special meeting minutes.
In committee reports the council set a preliminary budget meeting for Sept. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and noted committee updates: Technology and School Liaison reported no new items; Parks and Recreation said the ice skating rink has been leveled and the city applied for an Art Grant; Ziegler reported ongoing work with Moore Engineering on a zoning map.
On procurement and contracts, the council approved Jordan Barry’s request to order two cases of water meters for up to $2,900 (motion by Shane Balken, seconded by Dana Holland Jr.) and approved a five-year inspection contract with Summit (motion by Nathan Ziegler, seconded by Shane Balken). The council also approved payment of routine accounts payable and receivable.
Recreation staff reported 147 active fitness members, a vendor show and Turkey Bingo scheduled for Nov. 16, and recent rental activity. Under new business the council approved the resignation of the REC coordinator (motion by Darrell Tollefson, seconded by Shane Balken). The council approved an annual donation of $290 to West Central Initiative (motion by Nathan Ziegler, seconded by Dana Holland Jr.).
