Redwood County EDA coordinator introduces focus on fiber, housing and childcare; council not ready for comprehensive plan

Grady Holtberg, introduced at the Sept. 9 Lamberton City Council meeting as the new Redwood County EDA Coordinator, told the council his current projects include broadband/fiber expansion, a countywide housing study and childcare initiatives. Holtberg encouraged city leaders to contact him with questions or needs and said he would like to approach projects from a countywide perspective.
Council members welcomed the introduction but expressed that Lamberton is not currently ready to move forward with a comprehensive plan offered by the Southwest Regional Development (Chris Webb). Halter said grant funding is available to offset some planning costs, but the council’s consensus was to defer a comprehensive planning effort for now.
Holtberg’s stated priorities (fiber, housing study, childcare) align with areas staff and council cited in other agenda items, including EDA work on a federal grant to update water wells. The council recorded no formal action tying Holtberg’s proposals to specific city commitments during the Sept. 9 meeting.
