Lonsdale council approves routine transfers, contracts, hires and sign code changes

The Lonsdale City Council unanimously approved a series of routine administrative and operational items on April 30, including fund transfers, a new building official agreement, infrastructure maintenance work, seasonal hires, election judge appointments and updates to the sign code.
City Administrator Joel Erickson said auditors recommended eliminating a negative balance of about $58,000 in the 424 Fund by transferring $19,612.99 from Fund 601 (water), $19,612.98 from Fund 602 (sewer) and $19,612.98 from Fund 610 (road and bridge). Erickson said the transfers reflect the original 2024 project allocation and that the overall fiscal impact is neutral because the funds had already been spent; the council approved Resolution 2026-25 by unanimous vote.
Erickson also said Metro West Inspection Services notified the city in April that it would terminate the building official contract it began in July 2025. Corey Block of C. Block Inspections, who responded to the original RFP, agreed to honor his proposal and assume building official and inspection duties. Erickson summarized Mr. Block's qualifications and the proposed fee schedule (75% of permit and plan review fees; $62.50 for zoning permit and one-time inspections; $100 per inspection for open permits issued before May 1, 2026). The council approved the agreement.
Public Works Director Joe Dornfeld reported the city received three quotes for 2026 sanitary sewer televising; Underground Technologies submitted the low quote at $18,934.98 and the council approved the purchase. The council also approved conditional job offers for two seasonal public works employees: Eli Krautkremer (returning employee) at Grade 1/Step 2 ($20.44/hr.) with an expected start around June 1 and Parker Malecha (new hire) at Grade 1/Step 1 ($19.75/hr.) expected to start around June 11.
Planner Hinz-Ibarra presented Resolution 2026-26 to appoint election judges for the Aug. 11 primary and Nov. 3 general election (to be held at the Parish Hall of the Immaculate Conception Church); judges will be compensated Grade 1/Step 1 ($19.75/hr.). The council also accepted new donations toward the Founder's Fest fireworks contract (originally approved at $18,000): $100 from the American Legion Auxiliary, $500 from Triumphant Life Church and a $500 personal donation from Councilmember Scott Pelava and his wife Sandy. Councilmember Brian Wermerskirchen noted the sandwich-board change in the sign ordinance amendment and Councilmember James Vosejpka suggested a future review of sign permit fees.
Motions for each item were approved unanimously.
