City manager outlines July 4 parade and fireworks; resident urges preserving Roy Glasco Circle

City Manager Patrick laid out logistics for Avondale Estates' July 4 festivities at the June 26 Board of Mayor and Commissioners meeting, and a resident used the public-comment period to ask the board to preserve Roy Glasco Circle.

Patrick said parade registration closes at 11:59 p.m.; participation is free but all motorized vehicles, floats and organized groups must submit an application. He invited residents to join the "Patriotic Brigade," asking participants to assemble on the front lawn of the "cab School the Arts" by 9:30 a.m. He said festivities will begin at 7 p.m. and fireworks usually start shortly after dark, historically around 9:15–9:20 p.m. Activities announced include face painting, stilt walkers, hula hoopers, jugglers, music and games; food vendors listed in the transcript include Scout Troop Six, Tailored Barbecue, Smiley Burger Club, Slim Thick Vegan, a new nitrogen-ice-cream vendor called "seven cream lab," Kona Ice and Banjo Coffee.

During public comment, resident Kathy Dee (self-identified) asked the board "please leave alone the Roy Glasco Circle," urging respect for the site's tradition and local caretakers. She said the circle has been maintained historically by Mr. Glasco and argued against design changes that would close one side of the circle or replace plantings with decorative plastic boxes. The chair reminded the public that the millage-rate hearing will be held later for formal comments specific to that ordinance. No formal action on streetscape design or the Roy Glasco Circle was taken at the meeting; the comment was recorded as part of the public-comment period.
