Toledo council opens budget work session, urges cuts and flags wages for review

The work session began at 5:17 p.m. after a motion by Council member Pansegrau, seconded by Boll, and included Council members Pansegrau, Boll, Goodhart and Vesely; Cook was absent. The council spent the session reviewing payroll pressures and directed staff to reduce budget lines where feasible to keep the levy and overall spending down.
City Clerk Kim McAdoo was asked to enter the wage and budget changes discussed into the draft budget. The council scheduled a follow-up budget work session for Feb. 24, 2025, to review the updated figures after the regular meeting that night.
The work session did not produce a formal vote on specific budget figures; it recorded general direction to staff to prepare revised numbers. The council adjourned the work session at 6:30 p.m.
The discussion reflects preliminary budget-level direction rather than final action; council members signaled an intent to limit increases by cutting discretionary items and reviewing wage impacts before final budget adoption.
