Board extends compliance date to Oct. 1 for 206 Cottonwood Drive permit review

Inspector Chris Alvine presented a noncompliance update for case 2025 CE0000238 (206 Cottonwood Drive), noting that a prior order required permit issuance by Aug. 1, 2025, and that as of the hearing the permit application remained under review and not issued. Alvine said the permitting record shows comments were outstanding and staff could not view the specific comments in their limited-access view.
Respondent Joseph Areola said the outstanding item was a professional drawing with an engineer seal; he told the board he received the sealed drawing earlier in the day, had been in contact with building official Glenn Parino, and was attempting to submit the document to the permitting office before closing time. Areola asked for leeway given his ongoing communication and the late submission.
The board discussed options including tabling the matter, reducing fines or extending the compliance date. The board voted to amend the prior order by extending the compliance deadline to Oct. 1, 2025; the board advised that if the respondent does not obtain a permit and inspection by that date, the original fines (the order specified $200/day beginning Aug. 1, 2025) will accrue as previously authorized.
Board members urged the respondent to maintain contact with the permitting office and the assigned code enforcement officer; staff noted that if compliance is achieved before the new date no fines will be assessed.
