Organizers proposed a first annual Main Street car and bike show aimed at drawing residents to local businesses and requested council assistance with permits and promotion.
Presenter Marsha Laay described vehicle categories by model year, plans for DJs and judges, a children's area with an inflatable, raffle prizes and sponsor-provided gas cards to be given periodically during the event. She said local businesses are willing to offer coupons to attendees. Councilmembers asked about trash collection, security, vendor logistics and whether vendor fees could be waived for community vendors; Councilwoman Diane Howard specifically asked if organizers were requesting fee waivers.
Separately, Reginald Johnson and Savannah Green of the CAB Resource Network pitched a community health event to run between late April and June that would bring mobile medical units, health screenings (including HIV/STD testing), and a mobile farmers market that presenters said would offer fresh produce at up to 50% off for SNAP beneficiaries. The presenters proposed partnering with county public-health mobile units and offered wraparound services such as hygiene and period-supply kits for unhoused residents.
Council discussed combining outreach for the app proposal, the car/bike show and the health event with city-week promotions and civic events already scheduled in April. Organizers and presenters were encouraged to coordinate with staff on permits, dates and vendor registration; no formal council votes were taken on event permits or fee waivers during the work session.
