Kiwanis confirms pavilion construction for July; council to consider temporary parking closures

Grossman said, “We’ve made a few changes to the design since we saw you last,” and described design updates including removal of the cupola, re-positioning a ramp to improve pedestrian circulation, horizontal railings and concrete pillars designed by Matt Welter. He told council members the supplier for the pavilion structure was changed because of a conflict of interest and that subcontractors have been selected.
Mayor Jimmy Morlan and council members asked about staging and public access during work; Grossman requested that parking spots on Jefferson Street be blocked temporarily to store materials. The council directed that the request be reviewed by the Street & Sanitation committee and said Grossman should return with parking details at the May 21 meeting.
Why it matters: the pavilion is timed to be complete before one of the city’s largest summer events, the Fountain Festival, and will affect traffic and parking on Jefferson Street during construction. The council’s procedural direction — sending the parking closure request to the Street & Sanitation committee — means formal approval for closures will be considered separately.
