Residents raise concerns over proposed Delta/Jacobs Road solar project; commission to review Solar Ordinance

Zoning Officer Jeff Koons told the Chanceford Township Planning Commission at its April 15 meeting that he received an inquiry about a proposed solar development on Delta/Jacobs Road and provided the inquirer with a Zoning Hearing Application because such projects require a special exception under township rules.
During public comment, Janet Tyson said she opposes the proposed solar development. Lori Heffner asked several questions about the potential noise level, the distance of panels from property lines, and whether agricultural land would be taken out of production. The commission said it will review the township’s Solar Ordinance 2022-01 as part of its follow-up on the inquiry.
No formal action was taken on the proposed solar project at the meeting; the zoning officer noted the applicant must pursue the special-exception process. The Planning Commission’s review of Ordinance 2022-01 and any recommendation to the Board of Supervisors or Zoning Hearing Board would occur in subsequent proceedings.
