At the June 23 meeting, staff summarized progress on the Norwalk Health Department's strategic plan, which runs through Dec. 31, 2026, and outlined next steps for a fall planning process and a public survey.
Deanna D'Amore said the department has advanced priorities including workforce development (expanded trainings, an onboarding toolkit and a "supportive work" action group), community awareness and translation efforts (emphasizing English, Spanish and Haitian Creole), and partnerships with federally qualified health centers and regional organizations for immunizations and clinical services. Staff noted ongoing quality-improvement projects and steps to improve billing through a newly executed medical-billing consultant contract.
On technology, staff said they are piloting features in the city's MUNIS financial system, working with the new online permitting portal and exploring electronic health record improvements. The department also highlighted public dashboards and data tools developed to make health information more accessible.
In the director's report, staff announced new environmental health walk-in hours starting July 1: 8:30–10:30 a.m. daily, with appointments available outside those hours. Anyela Fignon described a communications push including flyers, website updates, social posts and email-signature graphics to promote the hours. Staff said the online permitting portal will be used to expand public access to restaurant inspection information and possibly revive a rating program in the future.
Board members asked about meeting scheduling for strategic-plan sessions this fall; staff said a board session is planned and a public survey will launch to gather input for the next plan iteration.
