Rothsay staff report water system repairs, lead-and-copper inventory letters; fire department FEMA grant denied

Rothsay — City staff and department heads updated the council on several operational matters at the Nov. 13 meeting.
Public works: Councilmember Darrell Tollefson reported that a couple of fire hydrants remain to be fixed and that an inspection of the water plant has been completed. Eric Larson presented a seal-coating quote from Advanced Striping and Sealcoating; the council asked staff to obtain additional quotes before deciding.
Water service inventory: Jordan Barry said he and Clerk Amanda Kuschel and Eric Larson are working on the lead-and-copper service line inventory and that letters have been mailed to residents on the list.
Utility billing: Kuschel reported that gWorks is addressing issues with the utility billing program.
Fire department: The Rothsay Fire Department reported that a FEMA grant application was denied. The department is seeking to purchase a Lucas CPR device and will conduct auto-extrication tool testing from October through December, possibly using donated junk cars for demonstrations. The clerk recorded two calls in October (one car fire and one car accident) and said additional billing is being processed by the Fire Chief.
No formal objections were recorded on these operational items; some purchases (for example the Corrpro contract and a $50 donation to the fire department) were approved separately in council motions.
