Rock Creek asks Pine County to handle cannabis retail zoning, keeps other zoning authority

Rock Creek Planning Commission members on Oct. 21 voted to have Deputy Clerk Ashley Rauschnot submit a Pine County survey selecting the option for Pine County to administer cannabis zoning for the city while Rock Creek retains its other zoning authority.
Commissioners discussed options provided by Pine County, including ceding full cannabis zoning authority to the county or adopting county language while retaining local administration. Dan Saumer and Curt Kubesh said the Commission believes Rock Creek may not be well suited for THC retail sales; as the minutes state, members were "not sure Rock Creek is a good fit for THC Retail sales anyway," and they preferred that Pine County handle retail administration. Members also said cultivation and manufacturing should be restricted to the city's Light Industrial District and that retail sales should be limited to the C-1 Highway Commercial District.
Oliver Rauschnot moved and Josh Froelich seconded that Deputy Clerk Ashley Rauschnot submit the Pine County survey with the option for county administration; the motion passed with all ayes. The Commission directed staff to schedule a public hearing next month on draft local cannabis ordinances in case Pine County does not accept the request.
Next steps: Deputy Clerk to submit the survey to Pine County; the Commission will hold a public hearing on local ordinance drafts if necessary.
