The South Kingstown School Committee approved several motions and contract awards during its meeting, while tabling action on the state’s Chartwells food-service contract.
Chair Carol Vetter presided as members voted to seal the executive-session minutes and to accept a proposed legal fee agreement related to district legal business. The committee also approved the superintendent’s recommendation to award RFP 2472 (Allied Health Program Partnership) to American Safety Programs and Training Inc.; the superintendent noted this contract is funded with Perkins federal grant dollars. The groundskeeping contract (RFP SK0027FAC) was awarded to Dimeo Properties, Inc.; the district’s portion of the townwide bid will be prorated to 21 mowing cycles and charged to the school general fund.
On policy, the committee adopted revisions to Policy 84-25 (residency) on a second read; members said changes chiefly cross-reference the district’s new McKinney-Vento policy. The committee also approved a standalone McKinney-Vento homeless assistance policy that codifies how the district supports students in McKinney-Vento situations, noting the district uses the federal statute’s terminology.
The superintendent said the statewide contract awarded to Chartwells was announced June 12 and the district requested Chartwells add language previously required by town bond counsel for outside operators; Chartwells’ legal team had not returned confirmation by the meeting, so the item was not brought forward for a vote. The superintendent assured members that food service for summer programs would be provided while contract language is finalized.
The meeting closed with an adjournment by voice vote.
